3M Green Commitment

In 2006 alone, 3M donated nearly 2.1 million towards environmental projects in the United States. Their stance on the environment is apparent. While working hard to prevent additional damage to our environment, 3M has created a focused plan to 2010. Their website highlights this specific business plan:

Reduce Volatile Air Emissions by 25%.
Improve Energy Efficiency by 20%.
Reduce Waste (NonProduct Output) by 20%
Complete 800 Pollution Prevention Pays projects.

Their initial five year plan included the same goals listed above. They met or extremely exceeded all of their goals and hope to do so again in 2010. Chairman George Buckley notes that 3M will continue to build on its already impressive results. "3M proved long ago that a company can be competitive and profitable and also a responsible citizen. We will continue to demonstrate that principle through our actions," Buckley said.

3M is currently included within the Dow Jones Sustainability Index. This index tracks the performance of these companies worldwide. Within the industrial sector, 3M leads the way because of their powerful and goal-oriented programs.

The path to sustainability has been a long one. However, in 2007 alone, the company has worked hard to continue their efforts. In February, they launched their new environmental solutions catalog that includes a variety of projects that help protect the environment (mostly Cleaning & Maintenance supplies). However, 3M's most popular product, Post-It note pads were introduced with a new Recycled Paper variation. Taking office supplies to the next level towards protecting the environment, 3M is both business-minded and dedicated to a better world.

May 2007 brought an award from the United States Environmental Protection Agency. The first annual Clean Air Excellence Award recognized 3M's extensive effort to reduce air emissions throughout the world. From there, 3M's massive business reconstruction led to the launch of their both new and updated website in September 2007. The project also included a Sustainability Report.

According to their reports, nearly 32,100 tons of pollution was prevented from their business practices. With a dedicated forefront combined with always fantastic office supplies and other items, 3M continues to provide both consumers and the world quality care.
